Stages of Mesothelioma

After the doctor has determined that they are actually dealing with mesothelioma, they must determine exactly in which phase it is. This will also help to determine which type of treatment suits you best. There are four types of mesothelioma stages. Phase 1 is the earliest and least serious and phase 4 is the most advanced.

Phase 1 - At this stage it is often difficult to make a diagnosis. There is no involvement of lymph nodes and the cancer is at the starting point.

Stage 2 - Mesothelioma is still limited to the same starting point as in phase 1. There are times when regional lymph nodes can be affected. There will be a number of different treatment options at this time. An operation can still be performed.

Phase 3 - This is when cancer has spread beyond the original point of origin and other lymph nodes are affected. It is still possible to perform an operation at the moment, although this is less likely.

Phase 4 - Lymph nodes and other organs will be affected by cancer at this time. Organ donation is currently a strong possibility. If cancer has reached this stage, there will not be many treatment options. At this stage, it is urgent to consult a specialist.

The specialist will make recommendations about what type of treatment is needed to remove cancer, depending on what stage it is in. There are different ways to measure the stages and your doctor will make recommendations based on the type of system. Always think of a second opinion from specialists. [*]
